It usually takes about 2-3 weeks to get rid of the ivy rash. Here is a self care poison ivy treatment:
• Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream. Follow the directions on the label.
• A paste of 3 teaspoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water.
• Take baths with lukewarm water. Add an over-the-counter product called Aveeno colloidal oatmeal.
During this time, it’s important to try to keep from scratching the blisters. Bacteria from under your fingernails can get into the blisters and cause an infection. The first step in killing poison ivy plants, whether through chemical or organic weed control, is identifying them. After 24 to 48 hours of exposure, the victim may experience skin discomfort followed by redness, blistering, swelling and severe itching.
